Meet Our FounderDr. Tracey Banks
My earliest remembrance of wanting to be a physician was at the young age of 14 when I volunteered to become a candystriper. I LOVED everything about the hospital from its constant hustle & bustle, to the feeling I received from helping patients.
When I started medical school, I wasn’t 100% sure which specialty I wanted to pursue, but women’s health was at the top of my list. After I completed my OB/GYN rotation, I knew that was for me. I didn’t mind the long hours and the endless nights because of the satisfaction I received from helping a mom bring new life into the world. And even when the outcomes were unexpected or sad, as in the case of a cancer diagnosis or miscarraige, I felt a calling to help my patient and her family weather that storm.
As a practicing OB/GYN for over 25 years, I have realized that our current healthcare system needs to shift from a traditional disease-centered focus to a more patient-centered approach. The medicine I was taught in medical school concentrated on disease. How do we diagnose it? How do we treat it? I see more and more patients with chronic illnesses and conditions that are being treated but they still don’t feel good. I started asking myself, what is the missing link? With all our 21st century technologies and medical advances, why aren’t people more healthy. My journey led me to Functional Medicine.
I believe Functional Medicine is the missing link and the bridge between conventional medicine and alternative treatments. By looking at the root cause of disease and making changes to the way we live, relax, eat, and exercise, we can change this vicious pattern of illness. I invite you to take this journey with me and see how healthy you can become.
